We all need and benefit from the natural yeast fungus. Most people find this quite surprising but small quantities of yeast are always present in and on your body. You may develop infections if you have too much of the fungus. Understanding some of the causes of yeast infection helps to avoid or at least reduce the chances of suffering this uncomfortable condition in the future.

Warm and damp areas are perfect for yeast growth so there are some parts of our body that are very susceptible to yeast growth. Wearing underclothes made of synthetic materials will cause problems especially if they are tight fitting. If instead of doing that you wear cotton it can breathe much better and helps keep you dry. Remember to change your underwear each day to keep your body dry and fresh.

The connection between diabetes and yeast growth is surprising but logical. Women who are not very good at controlling their diabetes very well have a greater chance of developing yeast growth. Yeast grows well in damp conditions and the traces of sugar helps in it’s growth. Even those of you who do not have diabetes might find it is helpful to reduce your sugar intake.

Avoid or reduce the use of scented products like tampons, deodorant sprays and even scented toilet paper which may reduce your resistance to yeast growth. You should always change out of damp and sweaty sports clothing or swimming costumes as soon as practical after exercising or swimming.

We all have yeast living on and inside our bodies which is natural and normal as long as it remains quiet. We actually need them so if you are prescribed antibiotics you will kill not only the problem bacteria but also the bacteria that would ordinarily control the growth of the yeast. There are certain types of antibacterial soap and using these may be killing some of these helpful bacteria. It may be best to avoid the use of soaps in the vaginal region as perfumed products and the dyes that are used might affect your ph balance.

If you can check to see if you are getting problems because of the detergent you use. It may be that changing brand could solve some problems. Reduce or even stop using douches as these may kill off beneficial bacteria. If you are wanting to fight yeast infections then antibiotics and antibacterial deodorants will make it more difficult.

Yeast infections are a problem for people undergoing chemotherapy treatment. If you are taking immunosuppressive drugs they may increase the likelihood of developing yeast infections. Cortisone based drugs may also reduce your chances of resisting a yeast infection.

Pregnancy can lead to problems with yeast growth and you are more susceptible to yeast infection during your periods. When wearing pads or tampons you should change them quite often. You always have a lower resistance level when your body is suffering from stress. The summary is that yes you can do some things that help prevent yeast infections and you can find some natural cures for yeast infections but you cannot entirely eliminate the possibility of infections developing.
