Make a “quit smoking” journal
No one can make you do anything, except yourself. Your desire to quit can gather more strength and power when you note down in your journal all the reasons that turned you towards this big step. Use the journal to answer your own questions like:
How did smoking affected and influenced your life so far?
Where does you life need improvement?
What can you do to change the home or work environment where everyone smokes?
Why does smoking give you pleasure?
What are the things you hate about cigarettes?
Are there persons that can help you quit?
What are the quitting benefits for you?
Choose the day you will be quitting
Decide on an early date. Be sure you pick a date before you have time to change your mind. Pick a period in which you know you won’t have many stressful factors to deal with. Plan a tight schedule for the first few days. the first few days are the hardest days, and people that do not have many things to do should find some or think of a time when they are very busy.
The first few days are different from person to person, some want to relax, others to do as many things as possible. Others just want to lay down. What to do during these few days is a thing we decide alone. Even sleeping for a long time can help. The addiction symptoms, felt during these few days, are intense, but they last for a short period of time. It’s only part of the long process you need to go through if you want to return to living a normal life. You can quit smoking in the end, and you will learn to love the person you’ll become without the addiction chains to surround you.
